And So Our Paperwork Journey Begins....

We heard back from the agency and they have accepted our initial application. Now the real work begins! They sent the packet of paperwork we need to complete along with all of the documents we will need to provide as part of the home study. Since we have already been down this road, you would think that the paperwork would seem like no big deal.... wrong! When I was reading all we needed to do, it seemed like a daunting task. I made my list of questions I had after reading all of the requirements and contacted the agency. With in a few hours, I had all of my questions answered and felt much more at ease. After a few days to process the information, I have decided it really is no big deal. It is just a little bit of busy work! So, I am now trying to complete a little each day and am hoping we will have it ready to turn in sometime next week.

One thing we need to have by the time of the home study is a copy of our birth certificates and our marriage license. We keep all important documents in a safe at my in-laws' house. When we gave them K's birth certificate to put in there, my MIL realized that the envelope in the safe that should have my birth certificate was empty. I have no idea when I used it last and cannot figure out why I would have given it back to her empty! Four years later, and I still have no idea where it is. So I went to the web to try to figure out what I needed to do to get a new one. I was born in New York, but we moved from there when I was just a few months old. I was shocked at there time frames and prices! It was $30 and up to 12 weeks to get one if ordered via mail. It was $65 and only 5-10 days to get one if ordered via phone or internet. Crazy! The other crazy thing is that I will probably stumble across mine now that I have ordered an new one!!!!!

And so our paperwork journey begins! :)

  1. Bummer! We had to order my hubby his birth certificate when we couldn't find his because our adoption agency needed it. After we ordered and paid, his mom found it...she swore she didn't have it, lol! :)

  2. Of course you'll find it now! Isn't that how things always happen? So excited that you are starting the journey again. Can't wait to follow along with you!
